Yu-Kyeong Hwang received her B.S and M.S degree in biology from Ewha Womans University. She got a Ph.D. degree in Ajou University, School of Medicine, and trained in Indiana University, School of Medicine as a Post Doctor.
Dr. Hwang is currently senior vice president of Cell Therapy Research Center, GC LabCell Corp. She is in charge of R&D projects about cell and gene therapy since 2014. She had worked in pharmaceutical company driven research institute (Mogam Research Institute) for 20 years.
She developed therapeutic vaccine by T cell activation against chronic infectious diseases and cancer. Based on long term experience of cellular immunology, she started to develop in NK cell therapy for cancer treatment since 2007. By developing NK cell therapeutics, she covers from basic research to clinical trials. She has conducted the world first clinical trial using random donor derived expanded NK cell, and few more clinical trials in hepatocellular carcinoma, acute leukemia and neuroblastoma with or without lymphodepletion. Currently this NK cell program goes on phase IIa against HCC. Recently, her team is preparing IND submission for gene modified NK cell for cancer.
